Florida, FSU graduates score high on July bar examination.

Graduates from Florida's two public law schools got the highest passage rate for those taking the July Florida bar exam, an event that also saw the first students from the state's seventh accredited law school pass the exam.

The Florida Board of Bar Examiners released the results from the July bar exam on September 13, and noted that it steadily has been reducing the time necessary to grade the exams and release the results.

A total of 1,895 people took the exam, 732 from out of state and the remainder in-state graduates. The FBBE also said 1,726 took the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam in March, 596 from out of state and the remainder from the seven law schools.

University of Florida topped those who took Part A and Part B of the general bar exam; 210 of the 231 UF grads passed that portion, or 90.91 percent. Florida State University was next, with 138 of its 154 graduates passing, or 89.61 percent. The only other school to top 80 percent was Stetson University, where 95 of 113 graduates passed, or 84.07 percent.

Four students from Jacksonville's Coastal School of Law, which won provisional accreditation from the ABA over the summer, took the exam, and three passed. Dozens more from the school are expected to take the February exam.

With other law schools: 248 of the University of Miami's 311 students passed the exam, or 79.74 percent; 168 of 232 graduates from Nova Southeastern University passed, or 72.41 percent, and 71 of 115 students from St. Thomas University passed, or 61.74 percent.
