Access and Solos.

After reading the article on the front page of The Florida Bar News--"Commission works to drive down the cost of legal access" --one thing is painfully clear--The Florida Bar does not want solo practitioners to be able to sustain a practice and make a living. I have been a lawyer for 26 years and a solo for 21 handling a family and criminal caseload. Most of my clients in family cases use the short form financial affidavit (meaning you earn less than $50,000 a year) and typically leave a retainer of $1,500 or less.

Now the Commission on Access to Civil Justice wants to provide my potential clients with "competent limited legal services for fees lower than those charged by attorneys." Thank you so much. Now my potential clients won't have to pay that lawyer Salerno and can simply go down the road to a paralegal with "advanced" training (whatever that is) and only pay $50.

The commission assails the meaning of not just my law degree...
