Board defers action on ad rules survey.

The Bar's Budget Committee wants to check with more polling companies before authorizing $50,000 for a survey, as part of a new study on advertising rules requested by the Supreme Court.

At the December 12 Board of Governors meeting in Orlando, Budget Committee Chair Gwynne Young said the committee reviewed a proposed contract with Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc., which has done earlier, similar surveys for the Bar.

She said the committee deferred action until the board's January meeting. The Program Evaluation Committee is checking with Florida-based companies on their prices for doing the work.

The survey outline had been prepared by the Board Review Committee on Professional Ethics, which oversees the advertising rules.

The proposed contract provides $45,200 for the company, plus some travel expenses. The Magid firm will conduct a telephone poll of 400 randomly selected Florida residents on their views on lawyer advertising and provide results and analysis.
