Board OKs pro hac vice changes.

A Bar rule change clarifying that out-of-state attorneys appearing pro hac vice must file for that status if they wish to appear in court has been approved by the Bar Board of Governors.

Bar UPL Counsel Lori Holcomb, at a recent Bar Board of Governors meeting, presented the rule for final approval.

She said as part of the Bar's new multi-jurisdictional practice rules, out-of-state lawyers are allowed to appear pro hac vice in up to three cases in a 365-day period.

The rules also allow out-of-state lawyers to provide limited legal services in Florida on a temporary basis. Holcomb said that some interpreted the rules as allowing them to appear in court without filing the motion.
