Death penalty.

The well-reported and matter-of-fact article in the March 15 News missed a key element of the death penalty discussion. The article concluded with a positive quote from Rep. Sprowls about how removal of the delays in execution were a good thing because it was helpful to victims' families and would be consistent with the Constitution.

As lawyers, we all have seen, occasionally, a judge's ruling or a jury's verdict that just got it wrong, even with good intentions all around. Our legal system is the best in the world, but it is not perfect. Our new death penalty process therefore accepts that we will execute some innocent people. Can we as members of The Florida Bar accept a process that will result in executing any innocent person? It may be constitutional to use the new death penalty process, but how can we justify killing any innocent person in the name of the...
