Annual Meeting

There are two contradictory trends at work in America today. On the one hand, more and more people are buying gas guzzling monster vehicles which they do not need except to flaunt their wealth. On the other hand, more and more people are buying old-fashioned scooters either foot-powered or driven by very economical gasoline engines.

Likewise, on the one hand the salaries and perks paid to chief executive officers of corporations are truly obscene, while the attrition rate among those executives results in about 15 of them being fired every week.

Years ago I went to several of the annual conventions of Florida lawyers. The surroundings were adequate but not plush, and the average lawyer could attend at least one general meeting.
