Nonlawyer Ownership.

In the February story, "Board details opposition to proposals," it isn't entirely clear on which groups are actually advocating for nonlawyer ownership in law firms and why these proposals are taken seriously in the first place.

In their unceasing drive to continue to non-lawyerize legal services, not only are they considering letting people who have no knowledge of the law at all run law firms, somebody apparently wants to allow other nonlawyers, i.e. paralegals, provide legal services. How about this: We let nonlawyers run law firms and otherwise provide legal services when we run out of actual lawyers.

I don't know how many lawyers there are actively practicing law in this state and without stopping what I'm doing (writing this) to look it up, I'd say it's probably north of 100,000. There are at least as many licensed attorneys in this state as there are people in some of America's mid-sized cities...
