PEC to review animal law and fee arbitration panels.

The Bar's Program Evaluation Committee will be examining the Animal Law Committee and the Fee Arbitration Committee as part of its agenda for the coming Bar year.

The committee is also considering a proposal from some Bar members to create a new substantive law committee on mediation.

Committee Chair-elect Gwynne Young reported at the recent Board of Governors meeting on the panel's activities, including the committee's planned review of specific Bar operations in the coming year.

The Animal Law Committee was created three years ago and under Bar policies is due for a review, Young noted.

The PEC was approached by a group of lawyers who want to create a substantive committee on mediation, Young reported. The committee discussed whether the purview should be broadened to all forms of alternative dispute resolution and whether it should be a substantive or standing committee.

The PEC has asked the new committee backers to get more information and then report back, she said.
