The rabbit hole?

Did anyone else see the front page of the January 15 News and think they had fallen down Alice's wonderland rabbit hole or entered Bizarro world where everything is weirdly opposite to what it should be?

The article "Proposal would allow the Legislature to override Supreme Court decisions" is crazily troubling. Congratulations, Rep. Gonzalez, despite the protestations, your proposal ignores the sanctity of our system of checks and balances that has served our republic for over 200 years. If the Supreme Court's decisions on the constitutionality of laws passed by the Legislature is subject to that same Legislature "overriding" the decision, then the court is arbiter of nothing, not our state constitution or laws. Perhaps we should really streamline things and render the Legislature itself superfluous by allowing the governor to "override" those same decisions of the Legislature where it chooses to "override" the Supreme Court.

Glance up the page to see another headline: "Governor rejects five JNC slates." Nominees duly vetted and selected as the best for each seat is a repudiation of the JNC system and a basic tenet our Constitution, an independent judiciary. Never mind that Article V [section]11 (b) of the Florida Constitution says: "(b) The governor shall fill each vacancy on a circuit court or on a county court...
