Unaccompanied minors.

As a Miami immigration lawyer who has helped more than 25 immigrant children become permanent residents pro bono, I was glad to see your excellent article in the October 1 News.

The need for representation is overwhelming; I regularly witness children with little education, unable to speak English, facing off against government lawyers who think their job is to send them back to abuse or even death. Most of these children are refugees who should not be sent home, much like the U.S. should have allowed children Nazi victims to enter the U.S. in 1939.

However, the volunteer lawyers must be well trained, and they must be selective about the cases they take. A bad lawyer can actually be worse for the children...
